Wellness Tips for Cold Season
Dr. Brooke Weitz winter wellness tips
We chatted with Dr. Brooke Weitz, a leading Naturopath (ND) and wellness expert from Seattle, WA to learn about some of the ways you can prep yourself for the winter cold season naturally.
What are your favorite vitamins, minerals, adaptogens for immune health during the winter season?
Each year I remind my patients to go back to the basics. Here's my list: Vitamin C, Zinc, Elderberry, NAC. Are there many others? Yes, but these are my faves.
BUT, we always need to start one step before this which is plenty of sleep (yes, give yourself permission unapologetically) increased hydration (goal is 1/2 your body weight in oz minimum) and daily movement and/or sweating.
What are your go-to daily vitamins, minerals, adaptogens? What do you recommend that your patients make sure to take everyday?
I'm horrible at taking supplements, but I am a true believer that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure - especially in these times. So each day I take vitamin D3+K2, a probiotic, omegas, b12, iron (mainly because I'm a female vegetarian athlete) and curcumin (turmeric).
Depending on the season, if I'm competing more heavily or if the weather is more gloomy, etc. I'll add adaptogens. My favorites are Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Reishi.
If you’re not eating massive amounts of veggies or nutrients from your food, you can supplement your diet. all Phenoms Daily is an excellent answer to this as well with the vitamins + nootropic ingredients. It is the perfect antidote for those times when you scored a C in the diet department. Or, if you just want extra credit.
